  WILMINGTON — Joyce Wanda Heunemann, 82, passed away peacefully Monday, June 21, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry W. Heunemann, who died on June 20, 2017. She was born Dec. 11, 1938, in Orange, New Jersey, to the late George and Lorraine Wanner.

  She grew up in West Orange and pursued a nursing career, becoming an R.N. and working at East Orange Hospital. Joyce married Henry W Heunemann on Dec. 5, 1959, and settled in East Hanover, New Jersey. During her 58-year wonderful marriage to Hank, they raised three children. After a 40-year career in nursing in 2000, she retired along with Hank to Sunset Beach.

  Both Joyce and Hank were members of the Music Box Society sharing their love of this beautiful music with all who knew them by playing melodies from any one of their spectacular music boxes they kept on display in their home. Joyce also enjoyed Pinochle, travel, swimming and playing the piano, which will be missed in the homes of her family when she came to visit.

  Her beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of her family. Joyce is survived by her three children, Tracey Beres of Kennedyville, Maryland, Lorine Ellwood of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Eric Heunemann of Leland. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister, Gail Drake of Palm City, Florida; and five grandchildren, Ryan Scannell and Madison Beres of Chestertown, Maryland, Caroline Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, Maggie Heunemann of Charlotte and Hannah Ellwood of Redondo Beach, California.

  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joyce Heunemann to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
